Zhuxi Riverside Park Introduction
One of the famous scenic parks in Chiayi County is the first waterfront park along the banks of the Puzi River. The park is located next to the Zhuzai Bridge on Provincial Highway 3, adjacent to the Puzi River, covering nearly 4 hectares. It features diverse and rich ecosystems, landscapes, and recreational facilities. The bamboo garden area houses over 80 varieties of precious bamboo from both domestic and international sources, making it unique in the country. The Zhuzai Waterfront Park is designed with zones for an art plaza, water activities, multifunctional grass areas, riverside walking paths, pebble play areas, stair plazas, and shaded walking areas. Vehicles are prohibited in the park, allowing visitors to enjoy their recreational activities without disturbances from the hustle and bustle. This multifunctional waterfront park not only allows people to get close to the Puzi River but also offers activities such as viewing the water, fishing, birdwatching, enjoying scenery, playing frisbee, flying kites, and playing croquet. A static display features the old locomotive No. 32 from the forest railway for visitors to appreciate, making it suitable for family outings. At the park entrance, over ten Malvaviscus arboreus (native to Central and South America) are planted. Known as the Imperial tree or yellow bell tree, it blooms in vibrant yellow flowers resembling bright sunlight when in full bloom, making it an eye-catching sight and a symbol of the arrival of spring. In mid-March to early April each year, as the Malvaviscus arboreus flowers bloom, it coincides with the cherry blossom season in Alishan. During this time, Yoshino cherry, Yaezakura, Peony cherry, Fortune cherry, and Guanzhong cherry blossom on Alishan, creating a dreamy spectacle. Other flowers like Eria javanica, Camellia, Digitalis, and Aspidistra also accompany these blossoms. Visitors can plan a day or more to fully experience the beauty of spring in Chiayi and the splendor of Alishan.
