Longyin Temple Introduction
Longyin Temple is one of the important attractions in Chukou. Construction of Longyin Temple began in August 1980 without any funding. Initially, it relied on the volunteer efforts of sincere worshippers, and gradually a management committee was established. Nestled amidst picturesque mountains and waters, Longyin Temple is accompanied by the Tianchang and Dijiu Suspension Bridge, making it a must-stop resting spot for tourists heading to Alishan. The temple and the suspension bridge have become landmarks that travelers can’t miss, representing important scenic spots and religious sites along the Alishan route. The temple primarily enshrines Master Li Xiuyuan, commonly known as Jikong Zen Master, who is also referred to as the Five Public Bodhisattva due to his five reincarnations to save sentient beings. The day he attained enlightenment is the third day of the tenth lunar month, celebrated as the birth date of the Zen master with grand rituals nearly every year. The main purpose of these ceremonies is to help sentient beings eliminate disasters and bad fortunes, as well as to ward off evil spirits. As the deity passes through the fire, his power becomes even more prominent, attracting many temples and numerous believers from across the country to participate in the festivities. On ordinary days, various temples and worshippers visit, while the forest trails beside the temple are perfect for enjoying the natural beauty of the mountains.
