Embroidery Culture Museum Introduction
Puzhi City in Chiayi County was once a major hub for the embroidery industry, and its prosperous situation at that time was reflected in the large quantity of embroidered products exported, including the Eight Immortals cloth, door curtains, pillowcases, bed sheets, puppet costumes, traditional opera costumes, and bridal dowries, which were sold all over Taiwan. In order to preserve this outstanding local cultural characteristic, the Puzhi City Office has been dedicated to promoting embroidery since 2002, establishing the Chiayi County Embroidery Cultural Association, organizing workshops for embroidery teaching, and, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, constructing the Embroidery Cultural Museum. The Embroidery Cultural Museum was originally an unused space of the local shipping team’s office, and the entire building was remodeled from a wooden Japanese dormitory, which gives it a historical charm that aligns with the essence of the embroidery culture. The museum records the glory days of the embroidery industry in Puzhi City and collects many meticulously crafted and breathtaking embroidered works. Through interactive learning within the entire industry, the Embroidery Cultural Museum recreates a strong local culture, combines community activities, promotes various cultural tourism, and becomes an attractive tourist destination.
