Hushan Campground (W027) Introduction
"Hushan Camp," also known as "W-027 Base," is located next to the entrance of the Nanshan Forest Road in Wuzhatou. It was an important stronghold during the early confrontations across the Taiwan Strait. Built between 1986 and 1988, it was constructed using local granite mixed with reinforced concrete, and the interior tunnels were completely hand-excavated. The construction was rushed, drawing nighttime reconnaissance from the opposing side, which necessitated heightened security, including the use of a .50 caliber machine gun for deterrent fire and the installation of nail traps around the perimeter for protection, making the process quite arduous. After the military mission ended, the camp gradually fell into disrepair. Later, through a plan by the Kinmen National Park, and with the skilled hands of He Qiaozhu (36 years old) and Chen Yaoyang (37 years old), the park's displays were restored to their original condition, while also incorporating artistic elements, with paintings bringing military life back to the abandoned spaces of "Hushan Camp." The camp reopened in February 2015, hoping that visitors can experience the unique historical context of the military base through the wall paintings and original displays.
