Lakeside Camp Area (W027 Site) Introduction
"Hushan Camp" also known as "W-027 Base," is located next to the entrance of Nanshan Forest Road in Wuzhatou. It was an important military stronghold during the early cross-strait confrontations. Built between 1986 and 1988 using local granite mixed with reinforced concrete, the internal tunnels were entirely hand-excavated. The construction work, done day and night, attracted nighttime reconnaissance from the opposite side, necessitating heightened security measures, including the use of machine guns for deterrent fire and the installation of spike boards around the perimeter for protection. The process was quite arduous. After the military mission ended, the camp gradually fell into disrepair. Later, through a project by the Kinmen National Park Administration and the skilled hands of He Qiaozhu (36) and Chen Yaozhang (37), the area was restored to preserve its original appearance while incorporating artistic creations. Through paintings, they aimed to recreate the military life within the abandoned spaces of "Hushan Camp." The camp was reopened in February 2015, hoping that visitors could experience the unique historical context of the military base through the wall paintings and original displays.
