Hushan Camp (W027 Base) Introduction
The "Hushang Camp" is also known as the "W-027 Base," located next to the entrance of the Wuzhatou Nanshan Forest Road. It was a key point during the early cross-strait defense operations. Built between 1986 and 1988 with a mix of local granite and reinforced concrete, the internal tunnels were entirely excavated by hand. The construction faced challenges as the nearby enemy conducted night reconnaissance, requiring heightened security and occasional use of machine guns for deterrence, along with the deployment of barbed devices for protection, making the process extremely arduous. After the military operations ended, the camp gradually fell into disrepair. Later, through a plan by the Kinmen National Park Management Office and with the skilled hands of He Qiaozhu (36 years old) and Chen Yaozhang (37 years old), the park's original layout was largely restored, incorporating artistic creations that depict military life through paintings in the abandoned spaces of the "Hushang Camp." The camp reopened in February 2015, hoping that visitors can experience the unique historical and spatial context of the military base through the wall paintings and original displays.
