Lakeside Camp Area (W027 Station) Introduction
Hushang Camp, also known as W-027 Base, is located beside the entrance of the Nanshan Trail in Wushatang. It was an important outpost during the early cross-strait defense. Built between 1986 and 1988 using local granite mixed with reinforced concrete, the internal tunnels were entirely hand-carved. The construction attracted nighttime reconnaissance from the opposite shore, requiring heightened security measures, including using .50 caliber machine guns for deterrent fire and setting up barbed wire for protection, making the process quite arduous. After the military mission ended, the camp gradually fell into disrepair. Later, through a plan by the Kinmen National Park Administration and the skills of He Qiaozhu (36 years old) and Chen Yaozhang (37 years old), who had served in Kinmen, efforts were made to preserve the original layout of the area while incorporating artistic creations. Paintings were used to recreate military life in the abandoned space of Hushang Camp. The camp reopened in February 2015, hoping that visitors can experience the unique historical background of the military base through the paintings and original displays on the walls.
