Si Lo Black Rice Cake Introduction
The rice cake made from glutinous rice requires no further introduction, as it is naturally a popular snack in the small town. Most of the shops still follow the traditional method of making "tongzi rice cake," although the ancient clay rice cake tubes have been replaced by iron ones. Nonetheless, rice cakes can still be seen everywhere in Xiluo. Past the bustling street market on Jianxing Road, there is a small shop opposite the Xiluo Fruit and Vegetable Market. It has no sign, just two yellow fabric banners that say "rice cake." The owner, now in the second generation and running the shop for 50 years, humorously mentioned that even the banners were made only two months ago in response to customer requests. The steamer used for making the rice cake has a history of 50 years and carries a strong sense of nostalgia. This rice cake is known only to locals, featuring a firm yet tender texture, with distinct grains that are fragrant, chewy, and smooth—truly delicious. For 50 years, the shop has only sold rice cakes, pork rib soup, and bowl rice pudding, remaining a traditional establishment that is committed to its flavors. Rice cake, pork rib soup
