Xiluo Black Rice Cake Introduction
Sticky rice cake made from glutinous rice requires no further introduction, as it is naturally a well-known snack in the small town. Most vendors still adhere to the traditional method of making "tube rice cakes," although the old pottery rice cake tubes have been replaced by iron ones. Nevertheless, rice cake is still a common snack found throughout Xiluo. After passing the bustling market on Jianxing Road, there is a small shop opposite the Xiluo Fruit and Vegetable Market. The shop has no sign, only two yellow cloth banners that read "rice cake." The owner, who has been running the shop for 50 years and is now in the second generation, humorously mentioned that even the banners were made just two months ago in response to customer requests. The steamer used for making rice cakes has a rich old-fashioned flavor and this rice cake is known only to locals; it is solid and dense, with distinct grains yet soft and smooth, making it very delicious.
