Xiluo Yanping Old Street (Xiluo East Market) Introduction
Dong Market, located in the Zitou area of Xiluo Township, was built in the 1940s using old materials repurposed from the temporary bridge of the Xiluo Grand Bridge. After undergoing debates over its preservation, the current Dong Market has transformed from a traditional market into a cultural and creative market, featuring arts and crafts and street performers. Yanping Old Street in Xiluo showcases Baroque architectural styles introduced during the Japanese colonial period, predominantly comprising two to three-story buildings. The most striking design element is the diverse shapes of the parapets, with the flat and elongated type being the most common, complemented by narrow window sills that evoke a tranquil and elegant atmosphere reminiscent of the past.
