Xiluo Yanping Old Street (Xiluo East Market) Introduction
The East Market, located in the Zitou area of Xiluo Township, was built in the 1940s using recycled wood from the temporary bridge of the Xiluo Bridge. After going through the controversy of preservation and demolition, the current East Market has transformed into a creative market featuring cultural and creative crafts as well as street performers, unlike traditional markets. Xiluo Yanping Old Street introduced Baroque architectural style during the Japanese colonial period, with mostly two or three-story buildings. The diverse designs of the parapets are the most eye-catching features, with the flat and elongated shapes being the most common, coupled with narrow window sills, allowing visitors to feel the serene and elegant charm of the past.
