Xiluo Yanping Old Street (Xiluo East Market) Introduction
The Dong Market is located in the Zaitou area of Xiluo Township and was built in the 1960s, using reclaimed wood from the temporary bridge of the Xiluo Bridge. After undergoing debates over preservation and demolition, the current Dong Market has transformed from a traditional marketplace into a cultural and creative market featuring crafts and street performers. Xiluo Yanping Old Street, introduced during the Japanese occupation, showcases Baroque architectural styles, predominantly featuring two or three-story buildings. The variously shaped parapets are the most striking design element, with the flat and elongated shape being the most common, complemented by narrow and elongated window sills that evoke a serene and elegant old-world charm.
