Xiluo Yanping Old Street (Xiluo East Market) Introduction
The Dong Market is located in Zitou, Xiluo Township, and was built in the 1940s. The wood used to construct it was repurposed from the old materials of the Xiluo Bridge's temporary bridge. After going through debates on its preservation, the current Dong Market has transformed from a traditional market into a cultural and creative market featuring arts and crafts, as well as street performers. Xiluo Yanping Old Street was influenced by Baroque architectural styles introduced during the Japanese colonial period, with most buildings being two or three stories tall. The various styles of the parapets are the most eye-catching design elements, with the elongated rectangular shape being the most common, further complemented by narrow window sills, giving a serene and elegant sense of old-time charm.
