Zeng Ji Mochi Co., Ltd. Introduction
Zeng Ji, the first mochi shop in the country to be certified as a GSP excellent store, was established through the entrepreneurial journey of founder Dong Chun-Liang and his wife Zeng Hui-Juan, who started from a mobile vendor. At the beginning of the business, Dong Chun-Liang required employees to wear masks, hats, and gloves to maintain food hygiene, but faced resistance from staff who claimed it was too hot. He led by example, wearing the proper attire himself, which eventually resulted in all employees adopting this practice. Today, Zeng Ji is characterized by its staff dressed in white clothes, white hats, and white masks, who openly showcase the mochi-making process, allowing consumers to feel more assured about food hygiene. This innovative approach was the first of its kind among mochi vendors nationwide. Despite his commitment to avoiding preservatives in mochi, which hasn't made Dong Chun-Liang wealthy, it has allowed him to support his family. Dong Chun-Liang admits that this business philosophy is somewhat conservative. However, under the strict no-preservative policy and through continuous efforts in technological development, Zeng Ji's handmade mochi can now be preserved for two days instead of just one.
