Shuangxing Sweet Potato Balls Introduction
This famous restaurant, Shuangxing Sweet and Spicy Tofu (甜不辣), is always bustling with customers, even on weekdays, and even more so on weekends. Although the store has been around for about fourteen or fifteen years and has passed down to the second generation, the space has been renovated and doesn’t feel outdated at all; instead, it has a modern touch. While it lacks some of the old charm, it is a clean and bright space. The owner mentioned that she has been in this business since graduating from high school, and now, years later, she finds it hard to believe she has been doing this for so long. When visiting, it is suggested to order the sweet and spicy tofu with a little bit of heat, and after enjoying the hearty ingredients, request a bowl of soup from the staff. The sauce and hot soup mix in your mouth, creating an incomparable flavor. What sets them apart from others is their sauce and soup; the sauce is brownish-yellow, tasting a bit like miso but looking completely different. The chili sauce served in the restaurant is made by the owner during summer, as summer peppers are said to be better; and the soup is made using small shrimp for a rich flavor.
