Old Friend Taro Balls Introduction
Lao You Hao Taro Balls was established in the 79th year of the Republic of China. The first-generation owners, Lin Rongji and Xia Amei, hoped that this shop would become a good friend to everyone, hence the name "Lao You Hao." The owner, Xia Amei, is skilled in making snacks, including cookies, steamed buns, cakes, taro balls, turnip cakes, and grass rice cakes, which have received rave reviews from the neighbors in Jiufen. Encouraged by the neighbors and the rise of the Jiufen business district, they closed their original rice store in the 79th year of the Republic of China and established the taro ball shop. Initially, they sold not only taro balls and sweet potato balls but also soup dumplings and other snacks. As the taro ball business grew, they could no longer make other snacks, so they eventually became a specialty shop focusing on taro balls and sweet potato balls.
