Old Friend Taro Balls

Taipei Foods

Old Friend Taro Balls was established in 1990. The first-generation owners, Lin Rong-ji and Xia A-mei, hoped that this shop would become a good friend for everyone, hence the name "Old Friend." Xia A-mei, the owner, is skilled in making snacks, including cookies, buns, cakes, taro balls, turnip cake, and grass rice cake, which have received rave reviews from neighbors in Jiufen. Encouraged by the neighbors and the rise of the Jiufen business district, the original rice store closed down in 1990, and the taro ball shop was founded. Initially, in addition to selling taro balls and sweet potato balls, they also offered soup dumplings and other snacks. However, as the demand for taro balls grew, they could no longer produce other snacks, and eventually, it became a specialty store focused on taro balls and sweet potato balls.
