Old Friend Taro Balls Introduction
Old Friend Taro Balls was established in 1990. The first-generation owners, Lin Rong-chi and Hsia A-mei, hoped that this shop would become a good friend to everyone, hence the name "Old Friend." Hsia A-mei, the owner, is skilled in making snacks, including cookies, buns, cakes, taro balls, radish cakes, and herbal rice cakes, all of which received rave reviews from the neighbors in Jiufen. Encouraged by the neighbors and the rise of the Jiufen business district, they closed their original rice shop in 1990 and established the taro balls shop. Initially, in addition to selling taro balls and sweet potato balls, they also offered xiao long bao and other snacks. However, as the taro ball business grew, they could no longer produce other snacks, and the shop became a specialty store focused on taro balls and sweet potato balls.
