Mi's Coffee Introduction
Drip Slow Coffee: A Journey Through Showa Times. "Mister Coffee," known for its movie scene-themed spaces, is inspired by the films of Yasujirō Ozu and has three locations in Taiwan. The Taipei store evokes the Shanghai ambiance from "In the Mood for Love," while the Tainan store draws inspiration from Hong Kong's "Days of Being Wild." The Chiayi location, affectionately called "Jia Mi," captures the essence of 1960s Showa-era Taiwanese street houses, creating a natural setting reminiscent of "daily life in Ozu's films." Mister Coffee was founded by a pair of artistic brothers. The younger brother, Xiao Yi, has a unique style and wears floral shirts while brewing coffee in Tainan, swapping to a black kimono in Chiayi. When he stands behind the bar preparing coffee, the cinematic vibe of the space becomes even more pronounced, with every snapshot resembling a promotional photo. Xiao Yi reveals that all the lighting has been meticulously designed. Jia Mi operates only four days a week, from 2 PM to 10 PM, making it one of Chiayi's go-to spots for night owls. As the evening deepens, sitting at the bar and experiencing Xiao Yi's KONO drip coffee or artisan tea preparation evokes a focused and tranquil atmosphere, as if time stands still, much like the amber-eyed cat, Uru, gazing by the window.
