90 Dessert House Introduction
The first canelé specialty store in Chiayi was established in 2020 by a young man in his 30s who has a passion for making desserts. He chose the canelé, known as the "Bell of Angels," as the theme for his shop. Although the store is located in a quiet old building on Guangcai Street in Chiayi City, he invested in hiring a well-known design company, Xiao Fu Qi, to create an elegant atmosphere with a blue and dark wood color scheme, complemented by dreamy white curtains, expressing a retro French feel. If you have the opportunity to walk down this street, you will be surprised to find a dessert shop that exclusively sells canelés. Upon entering, you can feel the warm sweetness wafting from the baked goods. As a canelé specialty store, Jiu Ling Sweet House not only offers classic canelés but has also developed various flavors containing fillings, including matcha, coffee, apricot, cocoa, Earl Grey, and Thai milk tea. Occasionally, they release limited editions, such as Mini canelés, which involve more complex processes but are perfect for single bites. They also launch mixed-flavor gift boxes for different holidays. Due to the pandemic, the pastry chef at Jiu Ling Sweet House is currently operating solo, and dine-in is not available for now. If you have a favorite canelé flavor, it’s best to make a reservation in advance. Photos courtesy of Chiayi City Government Tourism and News Office | Photography by Margaux.
