Liu's Rice Dumplings Introduction
Liu Jia Meat Zongzi, which has been selling for almost thirty years in Shimen District, can be regarded as the ancestor of meat zongzi in the area. Back in the day, the owner, Liu Guo-sheng, set up a stall in front of the "Shiba Wang Gong Temple," primarily selling meat zongzi and establishing the reputation of "Liu Jia Meat Zongzi." Over ten years ago, the owner opened a store on Central Road in Shimen City and officially put up the sign for "Liu Jia Meat Zongzi." Due to high daily sales, the shop employs more than ten people to take turns making and wrapping zongzi, featuring skilled hands ranging from grandmothers to brides from other places. Regarding Liu Jia Meat Zongzi: In the early 1970s, the "Shiba Wang Gong Temple" gradually became more popular, attracting many people to worship the deceased victims of shipwrecks. Among the devotees, it was passed down that offering hot food as a sacrificial offering would be more effective. As a result, Liu Guo-sheng, who was selling meat zongzi around Shimen Cave, began to occasionally push his stall to the "Shiba Wang Gong Temple" to sell, leading to a booming business. Consequently, meat zongzi became a sacrificial offering, prompting Liu Jia Meat Zongzi to relocate from a small area of three or four ping in the alley to Central Road in Shimen City to specialize in producing meat zongzi, officially displaying the "Liu Jia Meat Zongzi" sign.
