Since the Chiayi County Government transformed the traditional Dongshi Fishing Port into the Dongshi Fisherman’s Wharf, it has attracted a steady stream of tourists from all over the province. Located adjacent to the wharf, Huahong Seafood Restaurant is run by the owner, Hsu Huajie, and his two sons, who all take part in the kitchen. Their exquisite culinary creations have garnered much word-of-mouth praise and online recommendations, building a reputation that has lasted thirteen years. Like the Fisherman’s Wharf, it has become a favorite among gourmet tourists seeking high-quality dining experiences. Facing the Wengang Fishing Port, Huahong Restaurant is located in a professional oyster-farming area, differing from the Fisherman’s Wharf where fishing is the main focus. However, the two locations are just about a kilometer apart and can be reached via the coastal road. Huahong Restaurant specializes in local oysters, creating uniquely flavored raw oysters, and also offers sightseeing fishing raft tours, taking visitors to Guanshanting Island to observe the growth of oysters. The tour guide, Captain Wu Linshan, provides insightful explanations, making it a distinctive feature of the Dongshi fishing village. Huahong Restaurant is well-known for selling wild seafood and is one of the most esteemed restaurants among locals. The owner, a former oyster farmer, maintains good relationships with fishermen, allowing him to purchase fresh catches from the Dongshi Fish Market, as well as special seafood like larger and more unique species, such as grouper, blue crab, and scented snails, which the fishermen reserve for Huahong Restaurant.
