Xi Zi Beef Noodle Shop is a highly popular restaurant in Hsinchu, established in 2007. The name "Xi Zi" comes from the owner's nickname. It specializes in clear broth beef noodles and pancake buns, with the main store located at the intersection of Boai Street and Xuefu Road. The branch we visited is located on Niupu Road in the Xiangshan District, and just like the main store, it is always bustling with customers during meal times. Both the clear soup and braised beef noodle soups are highly recommended, and the pancake buns are a must-try. The distinctive feature of the pancake buns is their fragrant dough, high oil content, and strong elasticity, making them layered and not greasy when eaten. The pancake bun filled with beef combines beef shank and garlic sprouts wrapped with sweet bean sauce, offering a texture akin to flaky pastry - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Together with beef and green onion garnishes, the slight spiciness elevates the flavor profile. The shop is also considerate in cutting them into bite-sized pieces for easy eating, encouraging diners to keep going for more. The braised beef noodles, although they appear quite flavorful, surprisingly have a refreshing broth with the aroma of braised spices and the sweetness of beef bones. It's rich in flavor without being overly salty, and the half tendon half meat beef is tender and doesn’t get stuck in your teeth.
