Aizai Cheng Shrimp Rice Introduction
The origin of the name "Aizai Cheng" comes from Mr. Yeh's given name Cheng, as he was not tall, and customers started calling him by the phonetic equivalent of "Yeh Cheng" as "Aizai Cheng." This nickname has become widely known today as Aizai Cheng Shrimp Rice. Aizai Cheng Shrimp Rice originated in 1922 when the first-generation owner, Yeh Cheng, trained at a Japanese restaurant called "Mingyue Lou" during the Japanese colonial period. He later started as a small stall vendor serving Japanese cuisine and developed a unique and delicious shrimp rice based on Japanese flavors. He set up a stall at the Ximen Market and, after multiple relocations, established himself along Jhongjheng Road and Hai'an Road, commonly known as Xintiang.
