Yishengxing Preserved Fruits Introduction

For over a century, traditional Chinese medicine formulas have been passed down. In the past, people typically took Chinese medicine when they fell ill, and as the saying goes, "Bitter medicine is good for the health." To help children consume the bitter herbal remedies, some pharmacies also began making sweet treats, such as licorice powder, hawthorn cakes, and plum cakes. Over time, these salt, sour, and sweet delicacies, crafted according to ancient methods with meticulous care, became quite popular among locals. Thus, "Yishengxing" also ventured into the candied fruit business. With fresh fruits pickled using their self-developed herbal formulas, the candied fruits from "Yishengxing" not only adhere to traditional methods but are also carefully crafted. They are not only sanitary but also promote health, offering unique flavors. Founded by Mr. Yang Laoshou in 1882, the establishment has a history spanning more than a hundred years, witnessing the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Japanese colonial period, and post-World War II. Currently, the "Yishengtang Chinese and Western Medicine Shop" on Yanping Old Street is still operated by the third generation, Mr. Yang Zhenxi. To facilitate the preparation of candied fruits based on traditional Chinese medicine formulas, the fourth generation, Lao San, opened "Yishengxing Candied Fruits" across the street from "Yishengtang" to sell the family recipe's sweet-sour candies.
