Tamkang University Lanyang Campus Introduction
Tamkang University, Lanyang Campus, located on Linmei Mountain, covers an area of approximately 40 hectares. It overlooks the Pacific Ocean and provides a view of Guishan Island. The famous "Guishan Sunrise" view rivals the "Tamkang Sunset" at the Tamsui campus, both of which are considered one of Taiwan's Eight Scenic Views. The Lanyang Campus has planted thousands of native Taiwanese tree species, including azaleas, cherry blossoms, aquatic plants, as well as the precious native species "coniferous five wood," "broadleaf five wood," and the glacial relic "four ancient trees." According to civil engineering faculty member Wang Ming-ren, who was responsible for planning the native plant ecological forest in Lanyang Campus, "some of these are conservation-level native species, and it can be said that the Lanyang Campus has planted many ‘national treasure-level’ plants." The native plant ecological forest was achieved through the combined efforts and valuable suggestions from Tamkang faculty and students, resident artists in Lanyang, the Forestry Bureau's conservation and reforestation departments, and conservation experts on native plant species in the Lanyang area. With the support of the Lutong Forest District Management Office of the Forestry Bureau providing seedlings and professional consultation, significant progress has been made. The greening and planting at the Lanyang Campus aims to establish a natural ecological forest to attract rare birds, squirrels, butterflies, fireflies, and more for foraging and habitation while creating a good environment for study and research, aspiring to become an internationally renowned ecological landscape campus. Tamkang University can overlook the Jiaoxi Township of Yilan and can gaze down at Guishan Island.
