Tamkang University Lanyang Campus Introduction
Tamkang University’s Lanyang Campus, located on Linmei Mountain, covers an area of approximately 40 hectares. It offers a distant view of the Pacific Ocean and a downward gaze at Guishan Island. The famous "Guishan Sunrise" scenery rivals the "Tamkang Sunset" of the Tamsui Campus, both of which are among the Eight Scenic Views of Taiwan. The Lanyang Campus has planted thousands of native Taiwanese tree species, including rhododendrons, cherry blossoms, and aquatic plants, as well as precious indigenous species such as "Dacrydium ocumenium," "Elaeocarpus," and glacial relics known as the "Four Wonders of Trees." Wang Ming-ren, a civil engineering faculty member responsible for planning the native plant ecological forest at the Lanyang Campus, states, "Some of these are conservation-class native species, and the Lanyang Campus can be said to have planted many ‘national treasure’ plants." The native plant ecological forest was established through the collaboration of Tamkang faculty and students, resident artists, the Forest Bureau’s conservation reforestation units, and valuable suggestions from experts in the conservation of native plants in the Lanyang area. With the support of the Luodong Forest District Office providing saplings and professional consultation, significant progress has been made. The greening efforts at the Lanyang Campus aim to create a natural ecological forest that attracts rare birds, squirrels, butterflies, fireflies, and more, fostering a conducive environment for study and research, ultimately becoming an internationally renowned ecological landscape campus. Tamkang University has a view of Yilan County’s Jiaoxi Township and overlooks Guishan Island.
