Tamkang University Lanyang Campus Introduction
Tamkang University Lanyang Campus, located on Linmei Mountain, covers an area of approximately 40 hectares. With a distant view of the Pacific Ocean and a vantage point overlooking Guishan Island, the renowned "Guishan Sunrise" scenery rivals the "Tamkang Sunset" at the Tamsui campus, both of which are regarded as one of the Eight Scenic Views of Taiwan. The Lanyang Campus has planted thousands of native Taiwanese tree species, including rhododendrons, cherry blossoms, aquatic plants, and precious native species such as the "Pinus morrisonicola" and the "Quercus variabilis," along with the glacial relict "four great rare trees." Professor Wang Ming-ren from the Department of Civil Engineering, who is responsible for planning the native plant ecology garden at the Lanyang Campus, stated, "Some are conservation-class native species, and the Lanyang Campus can be said to have planted many 'national treasure-level' plants." The native plant ecology garden was achieved through valuable suggestions from Tamkang faculty, Lanyang resident artists, conservation and forestry units, and experts in native plant conservation in the Lanyang area. With seedlings and professional consultation provided by the Forestry Bureau’s Luodong Forest District Office, significant progress has been made. The greening efforts at Lanyang Campus aim to establish a natural ecological garden that attracts rare birds, squirrels, butterflies, and fireflies, creating a conducive environment for study and research, ultimately turning the campus into an internationally renowned ecological landscape campus. Tamkang University offers a distant view of Yilan's Jiaoxi Township and overlooks Guishan Island.
