Tamkang University Lanyang Campus Introduction
Tamkang University's Lanyang Campus, located on Lemei Mountain, covers an area of approximately 40 hectares and overlooks the Pacific Ocean, with views of Guishan Island. The famous "Guishan Sunrise" is comparable to the "Tamkang Sunset" at the Tamsui Campus, both of which are among the Eight Landscapes of Taiwan. The Lanyang Campus has planted thousands of native Taiwanese tree species, including azaleas, cherry blossoms, aquatic plants, as well as precious native species such as "Dacrycarpus" and "Machilus" and the glacial relics known as the "Four Great Wonders of Trees." Wang Ming-ren, a civil engineering professor responsible for planning the native plant ecological garden at Lanyang Campus, stated, "Some of these are conservation-class native species, and the Lanyang Campus can be said to have planted many 'national treasure-level' plants." The native plant ecological garden was achieved through the valuable suggestions from Tamkang faculty and students, resident artists at Lanyang, conservation and forestry units, and local experts in native plant conservation, all participating in the garden planning. With seedlings and professional consulting provided by the Forestry Bureau's Luodong Forest District Office, significant progress has been made. The greening of the Lanyang Campus aims to establish a natural ecological garden that attracts rare birds, squirrels, butterflies, fireflies, and more, creating a conducive environment for study and research and becoming an internationally renowned ecological landscape campus. Tamkang University offers distant views of Jiaoxi Township in Yilan and overlooks Guishan Island.
