Tamsui University Lanyang Campus Introduction
Tamkang University Lanyang Campus, located on Lanyan Mountain, covers an area of approximately 40 hectares. It offers a distant view of the Pacific Ocean and overlooks Guishan Island. The famous "Guishan Sunrise" view rivals the "Tamkang Sunset" at the Tamsui campus, both of which are among Taiwan's Eight Scenic Spots. The Lanyang campus has planted thousands of Taiwan native tree species, including rhododendrons, cherry blossoms, aquatic plants, as well as precious native species such as "coniferous five woods," "broadleaf five woods," and the glacial relic "four extraordinary trees." Wang Ming-ren, a civil engineering professor responsible for planning the ecosystem of native plant gardens at Lanyang Campus, stated, "Some of these are conservation-class native species, and it can be said that Lanyang Campus has planted many 'national treasure-level' plants." The native plant ecological garden was established through the valuable suggestions and participation of Tamkang faculty and students, resident artists in Lanyang, the Forestry Bureau’s conservation and afforestation units, and local experts in native plant conservation. This was made possible with the support of tree seedlings and professional consultation provided by the Luodong Forest District Office of the Forestry Bureau. The greening project at the Lanyang campus aims to create a natural ecological garden to attract rare birds, squirrels, butterflies, fireflies, and others for foraging and habitat, and to foster a conducive environment for studying and research, ultimately becoming an internationally renowned ecological landscape campus. Tamkang University offers a distant view of Yilan’s Jiaoxi Township and overlooks Guishan Island.
