Tamkang University Lanyan Campus Introduction
Tamkang University Lanyang Campus, located on Lamei Mountain, covers an area of approximately 40 hectares. It overlooks the Pacific Ocean and provides a view of Guishan Island. The famous "Guishan Sunrise" scenery is comparable to the "Tamkang Sunset" of the Tamsui campus, both of which are among the Eight Scenic Views of Taiwan. The Lanyang campus has planted thousands of native Taiwanese tree species, including azaleas, cherry blossoms, aquatic plants, as well as precious native species such as "Podocarpus macrophyllus," "Machilus thunbergii," and the glacial relict "Four Great Rare Trees." Professor Wang Mingren from the Civil Engineering Department, who is responsible for planning the native plant ecological forest park at Lanyang Campus, stated, "Some of these are conservation-class native species, and the Lanyang campus can be said to have planted many 'national treasure-level' plants." The native plant ecological forest park was achieved through a collaborative effort involving the faculty and students of Tamkang University, resident artists in Lanyang, relevant conservation and reforestation units from the Forestry Bureau, and experts in the conservation of native plant species in the Lanyang area. With the support of the Luodong Forest District Office, which provided saplings and professional consultation, a significant step was taken. The greening of the Lanyang campus aims to establish a natural ecological forest park to attract rare birds, squirrels, butterflies, fireflies, and others to forage and inhabit, creating a conducive environment for study and research and becoming an internationally recognized ecological landscape campus. Tamkang University offers a distant view of Yilan’s Jiaoxi Township and overlooks Guishan Island.
