Luo Xin Wa Dan Memorial Park Introduction
Located next to the Roma Highway, the Lexin Wadan Memorial Park features a nostalgic photo wall at the entrance, recording the achievements of Lexin Wadan. Inside the park, visitors can climb a wooden observation deck to enjoy the surrounding scenery, with the blue sky dotted with white clouds. In spring, the cherry blossoms bloom along the road, and during the millet harvest season, vast golden fields of millet sway in the wind, creating a beautiful contrast with the blue sky. However, this park that offers such stunning views hides a tragic story. Lexin Wadan was a leader of the Atayal people and one of the first Atayal individuals to receive modern medical education. He graduated from the predecessor of the National Taiwan University College of Medicine—the Taiwan Governor-General's Medical School—and worked as a public doctor for the Taiwan Governor-General's Office under the name Dr. Saburo Watanabe, practicing medicine in Atayal villages while promoting medical concepts and serving as a mediator between the Japanese and the Atayal. After Taiwan's retrocession, Lexin Wadan changed his name to Lin Ruichang and was elected to the first Taiwan Provincial Interim Assembly, actively advocating for the rights of his people. However, he became a political victim during the White Terror period. In honor of this great Atayal leader, the park was created by later generations.
