Luchin Wadan Memorial Park Introduction
Located alongside the Roma Highway, the Lexin Wadang Memorial Park features a nostalgic photo wall at the entrance detailing the achievements of Lexin Wadang. Upon entering the park and climbing the wooden observation deck, visitors can enjoy the stunning surroundings, with the blue sky dotted with a few white clouds. In spring, the cherry blossoms along the road are in full bloom, and during the season when millet ripens, the vast fields of golden millet sway in the wind, beautifully contrasting with the blue sky. However, behind the beauty of this park lies a sorrowful story. Lexin Wadang was a leader of the Atayal tribe and the first Atayal person to receive modern medical education, graduating from the predecessor of National Taiwan University College of Medicine - the Taiwan Governor-General's Medical School. He served as a public physician under the Taiwan Governor-General's Office, practicing medicine in Atayal villages under the name Dr. Masaru Doi, promoting healthcare concepts and acting as a mediator between the Japanese and the Atayal people. After Taiwan's restoration, Lexin Wadang changed his name to Lin Ruichang and was elected as a member of the first Taiwan Provincial Temporary Council, actively fighting for the rights of his people. However, he became a political victim during the White Terror period, leading to the establishment of this park by later generations to commemorate this great Atayal leader.
