Among all indigenous peoples in Taiwan, the weaving of the Atayal tribe is the most renowned. Atayal people can create a variety of intricate patterns using just a simple loom and two weaving techniques, which is both intriguing and admirable. As an Atayal woman, I watched my grandmother with her wrinkled face and deep-set eyes, focused and skillfully weaving beautiful patterns between the threads. The unforgettable look always lingers in my mind, and as I grew up, the tactile sensation of hand-woven fabric and the emotions while gazing at the weaving became unforgettable. The hand-woven fabric, combined with modern tailoring techniques and traditional dark colors, showcases the deep eyes of the spirit of our ancestors, allowing me to feel their warmth at all times. The horizontal stripes of the woven fabric are seen as a rainbow, a pathway to reunite with our ancestors. The diamond pattern symbolizes the eyes of our ancestors, guarding our tribe. By combining indigenous totems with leather, we produce distinctive products like wallets and bags.
