Jialulan Recreation Area Introduction
Kararuan is an Amis tribe village in Donghe Township, Taitung County. In the native language, it is called "kararuan," which means "the place to wash hair." Legend has it that the creek water in the past was rich in natural minerals, making hair particularly soft and shiny after washing, hence the name. The recreational area was originally an abandoned landfill from an air force base, which has been transformed into a coastal attraction that combines natural scenery and artistic creation through various ecological restoration methods. The park offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and Dulan Mountain, with wide grassy areas, pavilions, and viewing platforms interspersed throughout, as well as many artistic installations made from driftwood, creating an atmosphere rich in nature and creativity. Every moment, whether in the morning, afternoon, or dusk, presents breathtaking changes in light and shadow. When night falls, it becomes a stargazing paradise without light pollution, where visitors can lie on the grass, listen to the sound of the waves, and gaze at the starry sky and the Milky Way, experiencing the most romantic night sky in Taitung. This place is not just a scenic spot but also carries rich stories and culture. Tourists can stroll along the coastal trail, ascend to the viewing platform for a distant view of Green Island and the Coastal Mountain Range, or sit quietly to listen to the sea breeze and the play of light and shadow. From sunrise to starry nights, Kararuan is a must-stop attraction on the journey along the East Coast.
