Dapo Tribe Introduction
Kawaliwali, or the Dapo Tribe, is the earliest established Amis tribe in Chishang Township. According to records, Amis people from Hengchun settled here and established the tribe as early as 1880, and many of the Amis tribes in Chishang Township later branched out from Dapo Tribe. The Dapo Tribe is located on the right side of Dapo Pond in Chishang. Kawaliwali means "east" in Amis, indicating that the tribe is to the east of Dapo Pond. Dapo Pond is a naturally formed lake situated between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range, with its main water source coming from the Xinwulu River. It is the only inland freshwater marshland in Taiwan.
