Dapo Village Introduction
Dapo Village Kawaliwali is the earliest established Amis village in Chihshang Township. According to records, the Amis people who came from Hengchun settled here and established the village as early as 1880. Later, most of the Amis villages in Chihshang Township branched off from Dapo Village. Dapo Village is located on the right side of Dapo Lake in Chihshang. Kawaliwali means "east" in the Amis language, originally indicating that the village is located east of Dapo Lake. Dapo Lake is a naturally formed lake between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range, with its main water source coming from the Xinwulu River. It is the only inland freshwater marshland in Taiwan. [Source: Tribal Backpacker, Rich Taitung, Tribal Travel Guide]
