Dapo Tribe Introduction
Kawaliwali, or Dapo Tribe, is the earliest established Amis tribe in Chishang Township. According to records, as early as the 1880s, the Amis people from Hengchun settled here to establish the tribe, and later, most of the Amis tribes in Chishang Township branched out from Dapo Tribe. The Dapo Tribe is located on the right side of Dapo Pond in Chishang, and Kawaliwali means "to the east" in Amis, originally indicating that the tribe is located to the east of Dapo Pond. Dapo Pond is a naturally formed lake between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range, with its main water source coming from the Xinwulu River, making it the only freshwater marshland in the inland areas of Taiwan.
