Dapo Tribe Introduction
Dapo Aborigine Tribe, Kawaliwali, is the earliest established Amis tribe in Chishang Township. According to records, as early as the 1880s, Amis people from Hengchun settled here and established the tribe. Later, most of the Amis tribes in Chishang Township branched out from Dapo Tribe. Dapo Tribe is located on the right side of Dapo Pond in Chishang. Kawaliwali means "east" in Amis, which originally signifies the tribe's location to the east of Dapo Pond. Dapo Pond is a naturally formed lake between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range, with its main water source coming from the Xinwulu Creek. It is the only inland freshwater swamp in Taiwan.
