Dapo Tribe Introduction
Dapo Tribal Village (Kawaliwali) is the earliest established Amis tribe village in Chihshang Township. According to historical records, the Amis tribe from Hengchun settled here and established the village as early as the 1880s. Many of the Amis villages in Chihshang Township later branched out from Dapo Tribal Village. Dapo Tribal Village is located on the right side of Dapo Pond in Chihshang. Kawaliwali means "the east" in Amis, indicating that the village lies to the east of Dapo Pond. Dapo Pond is a naturally formed lake located between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range, with its main water source coming from the Hsinwulu River. It is the only inland freshwater swamp in Taiwan. 【Source: Tribal Backpacker - Feng Taitung Tribal Travel Guide】
