Hsuan Chuang University Introduction
Hsiuan Chuang University, although the youngest university in the Hsinchu area, bears the name of the renowned Buddhist master Xuanzang. Despite its religious connotations reflected in the naming of its buildings after the master’s dharma names, the campus is entirely devoid of any heavy religious atmosphere and is filled with greenery and vitality. The founder of Hsiuan Chuang University is Master Liaozhong, who established the university in 1997 with the philosophy of "promoting the spirit of Xuanzang through education and cultivating talents for the benefit of society through academia." In 2004, it was upgraded to a university. The location on campus most imbued with the atmosphere of Buddhism is likely the University History Museum, which displays historical artifacts related to the founding of Xuanzang and also houses the most precious "treasure of the university," the skull relic of the Tang Dynasty's Xuanzang, a rare artifact unearthed in Nanjing in 1942.
