Pizitou Botanical Garden Introduction
Pizitou Botanical Garden, located near the Cultural Center, serves four major functions: leisure, recreation, education, and research. Established in 1908 during the Meiji era, it was initially used as a production and testing site for rubber seedlings, alongside the Shanzaiting Botanical Garden. Unlike Shanzaiting, which is situated in hilly terrain, Pizitou is located in flatland, allowing for different forestry experiments to be conducted simultaneously at both sites. Over time, it has shifted focus to tropical and subtropical afforestation trials and has become a place for breeding afforestation tree species and ornamental plants. The botanical garden currently features planned areas for shrubs, vines, fragrant flowers, bamboo, and turf, as well as an urban multilayered forest landscape area, catering to the four functions of leisure, recreation, education, and research for the public and scholars.
