Nanxin Food Store Introduction
Established in 1953, Jia Xiang Wei has been a part of Chiayi for half a century, offering delicious and nutritious treats made from carefully selected fresh ingredients. The culinary skills were inherited from the father during the Japanese colonial period, learning the art of confectionery from the Japanese. From the earliest yokan (a traditional Japanese sweet), to steamed buns, snowflake cakes, sweet potatoes, and innovative square pastries, the offerings showcase a rich heritage. Among them, the retro-flavored Nan Xin Snowflake Cake stands out, made with high-quality butter as the filling and available in two flavors: lemon and pineapple. Its surface is dusted with a layer of powdered sugar, resembling snowflakes, hence the name. Soft and fluffy, it melts in your mouth, and can even be enjoyed frozen in the summer, providing a texture similar to ice cream cake. This delightful treat has been accompanying us for 60 years.
