Taichung City Library Shalu Shendao Branch Introduction
In 1986, the "Shalu Township Library" was established on the fourth floor of the Shalu Township office building, with an initial collection of 12,922 volumes. To provide a more convenient reading space, the then township mayor, Chen Ming-di, aimed to collaborate with private entities to construct a larger library, in line with the government's policy of "every township having a library" at that time. In partnership with the local "Wei Dan Enterprises," the township office provided a public land area of 4,797 square meters, while Wei Dan Enterprises invested in construction funds. The Education Department of Taiwan Province and Taichung County Government supplemented the equipment. Construction began in 1988 by Wei Dan Enterprises, and the library was completed and handed over to the township office for operation by the end of 1989, officially opening on February 20, 1990. The library initiated book circulation on July 14 of the same year. To honor the contributions of the enterprise to the community, the library was named "Shalu Township Shenbo Library" after Mr. Yang Shenbo, the founder of Wei Dan Enterprises. On December 25, 2010, due to the merger of Taichung County and City, it was reallocated to the Cultural Bureau of Taichung City Government and renamed "Taichung City Shalu District Shenbo Library." On March 1, 2016, it was reorganized and became "Taichung City Library Shalu Shenbo Branch." The Shalu Shenbo Branch is located next to the Shalu Administrative Center and is in close proximity to Shalu Junior High School, Shalu Elementary School, Beishi Junior High School, Shalu Senior Vocational School, Zhulin Elementary School, Chengchi University, and Hungkuang University, serving a wide range of patrons. In 2003, Shalu Shenbo Branch pioneered the "Bookstart" infant and toddler reading promotion campaign introduced from the UK, and the following year, it launched a parent-child reading club, allowing reading to accompany family growth. In addition, Shalu Shenbo Branch is one of the top "film-themed"特色 Libraries in the country, holding thousands of film-related special collections, including film books, audiovisual materials, journals, exhibition catalogs, and movie posters. It also has complete film screening facilities and regularly screens films from around the world and hosts themed film exhibitions, creating a strong cinematic atmosphere in a public library.
