Dadong Wetland Park Introduction
Dadong Wetland Park (originally named Zhongzheng Park) was established in 1981 and is located opposite the Dadong Cultural and Arts Center. After years of greening, the park is lush with trees and includes facilities such as a senior activity center, resting pavilions, the adjacent Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (demolished around October 2012), and the Cien Library, making it a great place for leisure. Chaitou Pond Ruins: During the Qing Dynasty, there were two places named "Pitou" in Fengshan County, namely "Pizaitou," located in the old city of Zuoying, and the old name of Fengshan New City, which was "Pitau." To avoid confusion, the Pitou located in Fengshan was renamed "Xiapitou," "Xiapitou Street," or "Pitau Street." The name Pitou in Fengshan is derived from the settlement being built adjacent to a pond, hence called "Pitou," which refers to Chaitou Pond. The circumference of Chaitou Pond in Fengshan is over five li (approximately 2.5 kilometers) and covers an area of 34.5 hectares (about 33.3 acres). It is a large pond located south of Wuluotang Mountain, which separates the Dongmen River (Fengshan River) and two canals (the inner and outer moats of Fengshan County City) to the west. Wuluotang Mountain is currently located near the livestock market in the Beimen neighborhood of Fengshan City, west of Fengshan River, and north of Bo'ai Road on low hills. At the intersection of Jingwu Road and Fengren Road, there is a "Spirit of the Beast Monument," which is a landmark that is easier to identify today in Wuluotang Mountain. Presently, the senior activity center, Fengshan Hospital, Fengshan District Office, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (demolished around October 2012), Dadong Hospital, Dadong Elementary School, Dadong Park, and the Ruijhu Community Activity Center to the east of Fengshan River all fall within the Chaitou Pond area.
