Tuku Township Farmers' Association Octagonal Warehouse Introduction
The Tuku Town Farmers' Association's "Octagonal Seed Warehouse," commonly known as the "Octagonal Warehouse," was completed on November 30, 1961. This octagonal-shaped structure made of cement bricks stands proudly in the agricultural-rich heart of Yunlin County, formerly known as "Tuku." Currently, there are only a few octagonal warehouses left in Taiwan, with three known to remain in Yunlin, and only Tuku Town actively utilizes one, while the others are mostly unused. It holds significant cultural and historical value in the industry. The eight sides of the octagonal warehouse are equipped with shutters, and the bottom of the walls has ventilation holes. Stairs are installed on both sides of the entrance, leading to a mezzanine for the convenient handling of seeds stored inside. The main entrance faces south, with high ventilated windows above and ventilation holes at the bottom of the walls. The internal seed storage walls are first covered with sugarcane boards and then with metal sheets to achieve proper ventilation, dryness, insulation, and moisture prevention, ensuring the proper preservation of agricultural seeds. The characteristics of octagonal architecture include excellent seismic resistance, good ventilation and lighting, and a short and fast internal circulation route, with a structure that is nearly circular, making it sturdy and durable.
