Tuku Township Farmers' Association Octagonal Warehouse Introduction
The "Octagonal Seed Warehouse" of the Tu-ku Township Farmers' Association, commonly known as the "Octagonal Warehouse," was completed on November 30, 1961. This regular octagonal concrete brick building stands in the agricultural-rich central area of Yunlin County, formerly known as "Tu-ku." Currently, there are only a few octagonal warehouses remaining in Taiwan, with three known to exist in Yunlin. Among them, only the one in Tu-ku Township is actively utilized, while the others remain largely unused, representing significant industrial cultural and historical value. The eight sides of the octagonal warehouse are equipped with louvers, and the bottom of the walls has ventilation holes. Stairs are installed on both sides of the entrance leading to a mezzanine, facilitating the transportation of seeds into the warehouse. The main entrance faces south, with high ventilated windows on the upper level and ventilation holes at the bottom of the walls. The interior seed storage walls are first lined with sugarcane boards and then covered with iron sheets to ensure ventilation, dryness, insulation, and moisture prevention for the proper preservation of agricultural seeds. The octagonal architectural design offers excellent seismic resistance, good ventilation and lighting, and a short and quick internal circulation path, with a structure that is nearly circular, solid, and durable.
