Tuku Township Farmers' Association Octagonal Warehouse Introduction
The Tuku Township Farmers Association's "Octagonal Seed Warehouse," commonly known as the "Octagonal Warehouse," was completed on November 30, 1961. This octagonal-shaped cement brick building stands in the agricultural rich center of Yunlin County, previously known as "Tuku." Currently, there are only a few octagonal warehouses left in Taiwan, with three known to remain in Yunlin, of which only the one in Tuku Township is actively used; the others are mostly idle, holding significant industrial cultural and historical value. The eight facets of the octagonal warehouse are equipped with louvered windows, and the lower part of the walls has ventilation holes. Stairs are placed on both sides of the entrance leading to a mezzanine for transporting seeds into the warehouse. The main entrance faces south, while the upper section has ventilated skylights, and the bottom of the walls is fitted with ventilation holes. The interior seed storage walls are first lined with sugarcane boards and then covered with metal sheets to achieve ventilation, dryness, insulation, and moisture resistance, ensuring proper preservation of agricultural seeds. The characteristics of octagonal architecture include excellent seismic resistance, good ventilation and lighting, and the shortest and quickest interior circulation path, resembling a round, solid, and durable structure.
