Kuo Yuan Ye Museum of Cake and Pastry Introduction
In 1708, the ancestors of Kuo Yuan Ye crossed the sea from Zhangzhou, Fujian, to Taiwan. With a simple shoulder pole at Shilin Bridge, they began a new chapter in Taiwan's traditional pastry history. Through four generations of legendary management, the century-old store has continually innovated, earning the reputation of "Pastry Family." After a hundred years of refinement, Mr. Kuo Yuan Ye established Taiwan's first pastry museum to preserve the precious historical assets of Taiwanese pastries. The museum displays the history of the "Pastry Family" over the past century and introduces the evolution of Taiwan’s traditional pastry industry as well as the customs related to traditional Taiwanese weddings, funerals, and celebrations, aiming to provide deeper insights and understanding of Taiwanese traditional pastries. Established in 2002, the Kuo Yuan Ye Pastry Museum in Shilin is the second museum, following the Yangmei branch opened in 2001. It is located on the original site of the century-old Kuo Yuan Ye store, on the fourth and fifth floors of the Kuo Yuan Ye corporate headquarters. In addition to the exhibition area showcasing the historical evolution of Taiwanese pastries and traditional customs related to wedding and funeral celebrations over the past century, the museum features a "Happy Baking House," inviting visitors to make pastries by hand and experience the fascinating world of pastries. There is also a "Parent-Child Activity Area" and an "Outdoor Parent-Child Recreation Area," allowing both adults and children to learn more about Taiwanese pastries through various activities and facilities.
