Jingxin Garden - Songshan Sanatorium Director’s Quarters Introduction

Songshan Sanatorium was established in 1915 and is the earliest institution for tuberculosis patients in Taiwan. With the establishment of Songshan Sanatorium, the director's residence was born. The director's residence was likely built after the implementation of the "Standardization of Official Residences" law by the Governor-General in 1922, which had specific regulations for the establishment of high-ranking official residences. Jingxin Garden (Songshan Sanatorium Director's Residence) is a Japanese wooden structure. The features such as the installation of rain awnings, the two-beam roof frame of the Japanese-style cottage, space layout, and building materials mostly showcase construction techniques from the Japanese colonial period. The umbrella-shaped ceiling and the decorative columns on both sides of the entrance highlight its unique architectural language and signify its cultural asset value.
