Jingxin Garden_Songshan Sanatorium Director's Dormitory Introduction

Songshan Sanatorium was established in 1915 and is Taiwan's first institution for accommodating tuberculosis patients. With the establishment of the Songshan Sanatorium, the director's residence was born. The director's residence of the Songshan Sanatorium was likely built after the enactment of the "Standardization of Government Office Quarters" by the Governor-General in 1922, as there were specific norms for the establishment of senior official residences at that time. Jingxin Garden (the director's residence of Songshan Sanatorium) is a Japanese wooden structure that showcases various elements such as the rain eaves, the dual-beam framework of the Japanese-style hut, spatial layout, and construction materials, primarily reflecting the architectural techniques from the Japanese occupation period. Notably, the indoor umbrella-shaped ceiling and the decorative columns on both sides of the entrance vestibule present its distinctive architectural vocabulary and possess cultural heritage value.
