Taipei Farglory Ocean Park Introduction

The coexistence of the past and present, restructuring spatial patterns "N24 Taipei Ark" was originally one of the warehouses of the Taiwan Power Company Center, serving as the Matsuyama factory during the Japanese colonial period and later as the Matsuyama maintenance factory for the Taiwan Power Company after the war. Initially, the building was used as a warehouse, which meant it lacked good lighting and ventilation in its design. After understanding the functional requirements and characteristics of the structure, the design team, in line with the Eastern District Gateway Project, aimed to transform it for office use. The approach involved separating the warehouse structure and extending it outward, allowing more natural light to enter the interior; the increased ceiling height in the upper level enabled a reconfiguration of the office space, expanding the vertical relationships. Introducing new functions to respond to new trends, the design team utilized the concept of community fluidity to break spatial layout limitations and plan flexible office, discussion, and relaxation spaces, allowing users to maintain freedom of communication while working. Additionally, considering the building's historical significance, the design team preserved the appearance materials and overall signs of use during the restoration, along with reinforcing elements like steel construction and seismic walls. The respectful restoration method, which retains parts of the original appearance in relation to historical context, allows us to view the mottled walls from various perspectives, highlighting the marks left by time. Upon ascending to the second floor and entering the office space of the "Blockchain Incubation Center," the design team chose to use seismic walls as point-like structures, addressing issues arising from the building's age while retaining the structural beauty of the original reinforced concrete. Following the light and the central rotating staircase, we arrive at the rooftop area. The angled volume of the rooftop courtyard is designed with side windows to allow sufficient light into the courtyard, and the shape of the volume reflects the "ark" imagery of "N24 Taipei Ark," becoming a representative symbol at the entrance of the park. Extending the context, redefining community space, the design team, through observations of current community connections, expanded the definition of "community" space into interaction within the "N24 Taipei Ark" as an office space for the blockchain center, depicting the future patterns of human interaction, which is undoubtedly one of the developmental trends. The core concept, combined with design methods, creates a human-centered architectural space, reflecting the charm of the space.
