Huo Du Bi Pond Ecological Park Introduction
The surrounding environment of Pingzhen Huoduobei Ecological Park is relatively quiet, featuring a serene lake and bamboo groves silently guarding some old memories. This approximately 0.7-hectare lakeside ecological space was once a fishing pond open to the public by the Shimen Agricultural Water Association. Since 2008, it has been transformed into an ecological park that combines local culture with natural scenery, receiving recognition with the 4th Public Works Gold Award from the Taoyuan City Government in 2010. The name comes from a pot, symbolizing the coexistence of language and landscape; "Huodu" refers to the bottom of a pot in Hakka language, named for the pond's resemblance to a large pot. This naming connects the local dialect with the shape of the land, leaving a unique memory of the land. From its name, the park represents not just a green space, but a medium linked to the local culture. The red bricks, tiles, and pebble walls within the park outline a simple Hakka architectural style, as if tracing back the footprints of Hakka culture in a modern space. In the light of the four seasons, one can leisurely walk along the lakeside path, where the bald cypress and paulownia flowers change colors with the seasons, inviting visitors to pause for a moment. Here, there is not just the breath of ecology but also thoughtful design—varying terrain creates a 10-meter-high slide, multifunctional climbing equipment, and a pure white sandbox that becomes a playground for children, merging play with the environment. The path above the slide connects to the Shimen Waterway Trail, where lush greenery allows for a leisurely stroll to continue. In addition to being a natural and recreational space, the park has also partnered with the water association to set up a management center for ecological education promotion activities, leading visitors to observe the ecological environments of the rhinoceros beetle and the brown wood owl closely.
