Jiqi Fishing Port Introduction
The area from Sanxian Elementary School north to the coast near Sanxiantai is called Jihui (giaw, gihaw). In the early days, a few households from Green Island and Hengchun lived here, and you can still see traditional Green Island stone fences. The bay to the south of Sanxiantai was the entrance for bamboo rafts before the construction of the Xinguang Fishing Port, hence the name "Jihui," which is likely in the Amis language, meaning "bay area or place with a bay." After the war, due to the 8th neighborhood also being named "Sanxian," the term "Jihui" primarily refers to the area around the 9th neighborhood at the bay port. The surrounding sea conditions, due to the geographical location, are usually calm and not suitable for surfing, but are ideal for snorkeling and deep diving. However, during the onset of typhoons in summer and autumn, and when the northeastern monsoon intensifies in winter, beautiful and rare left-hand waves appear here, presenting higher difficulty levels. With the enhanced northeastern monsoon, the site experiences offshore winds and rolling waves, providing excellent wave shapes suitable for advanced surfers to perform difficult maneuvers.
