Jiqi Fishing Port Introduction
The area from Sanxian Elementary School north to the coast near Sanxiantai is called Jiheng (giaw, gihaw). In the past, a few families from Green Island and Hengchun lived here, and traditional Green Island coral stone enclosures can still be seen today. The bay on the south side of Sanxiantai was a place where bamboo rafts entered and exited before the construction of Xinguang Fishing Port, hence the name "Jiheng," which is likely derived from the Amis language meaning "bay area or a place with bays." After the war, as the 8th neighborhood was also named "Sanxian," the term "Jiheng" mainly refers to the area of the 9th neighborhood near the bay and harbor. The surrounding sea conditions are usually calm due to the terrain, making it unsuitable for surfing but suitable for snorkeling and deep diving. However, before and after typhoons in the summer and autumn, as well as during the strong northeast monsoon in winter, this location can present beautiful left-hand waves that are rare in Taiwan, providing a higher level of difficulty. Additionally, due to the enhanced northeast monsoon, the area experiences offshore winds and rolling waves, creating excellent wave conditions suitable for advanced surfers to perform high-difficulty maneuvers.
