Jiupeng Desert Introduction
The Coastal Highway reaches Jiupeng, which is mainly composed of sand dunes. To head towards Gangzi, one needs to transfer to Route 200. From the hills at Pinghai, one can see a vast expanse of over 200 hectares of sand dunes, locally referred to as "Taiwan's largest desert - Jiupeng Great Desert." The Jiupeng River carries a large amount of river sand, which, at the estuary, is deposited on both sides after being transported back and forth by waves and ocean currents. During low tide, the sand is blown ashore by strong winds and accumulates on elevated areas, forming a dune landscape resembling a desert. On fine days, many visitors enjoy lying on the dunes, gazing at the moon as it rises above the sea. In the evening, strolling on the dunes offers a unique charm.
