Lotus Pond Research Center Introduction

Established on April 23, 1918, originally named "Medicinal Plant Cultivation Experimental Field," it is located in Wucheng Village, Yuchi Township, Nantou County. In 2002, it was renamed the "Lianhua Pond Research Center" of the Forestry Research Institute, Council of Agriculture Executive Yuan. The surrounding environment is rich in biodiversity, with a survey conducted on the flora and fauna within the park revealing 177 families, 561 genera, and 879 species of higher plants, of which 589 species are native and 290 species are introduced. There are 78 species of wild birds recorded. Additionally, 131 species of butterflies, 24 species of amphibians (frogs), 10 species of lizards, 11 species of reptiles, and 20 species of mammals have been surveyed. Each year, from April to May, this area is also a great place for firefly watching.
