Lotus Pond Research Center Introduction
Established on April 23, 1918, originally named "Medicinal Plant Cultivation Experimental Site," located in Wucheng Village, Yuchi Township, Nantou County. It was renamed to the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan Forestry Research Institute "Lianhua Pond Research Center" in 2002. Due to the rich biodiversity in the surrounding environment, the current investigation of flora and fauna within the park includes 177 families, 561 genera, and 879 species of higher plants, of which 589 species are indigenous and 290 are introduced species. There are 78 species of wild birds. Additionally, 131 species of butterflies, 24 species of amphibians (frogs), 10 species of lizards, 11 species of reptiles, and 20 species of mammals have been surveyed. This area is also a great place for firefly viewing every year from April to May.
