Liao Township Red Tea Story House Introduction

Liao Mayor Black Tea--Rich and Fragrant | Yu Chi Black Tea--[Yu Chi Black Tea] is located in Yu Chi Township, Nantou County, and its black tea industry has developed since the Japanese colonial period. In 1925, the Japanese introduced Assam black tea seeds from India for trial cultivation in the Yu Chi area. Due to the significant temperature difference between day and night, frequent morning and evening fog, and the acidic brick-red soil, the geographical conditions closely resembled those of Assam, leading to great success. Consequently, the Taiwan Governor-General's Office established the "Yu Chi Black Tea Experimental Station" in 1936 to serve as a research center for introducing and promoting Assam black tea. This laid the foundation for the development of the black tea industry in Yu Chi Township. The "Liao Mayor Black Tea Story Museum," which opened in 2012, features an exterior filled with classical European elegance, while the interior combines nostalgia with modernity, offering a delightful surprise at every turn.
