Shuiliandong Cave Introduction
Shuimen Cave Trail is located next to Shishan Visitor Center. The trail is not long and is relatively flat, offering picturesque scenery that is perfect for visitors of all ages to enjoy the forest views. As you enter the Shuimen Cave Trail, it feels like stepping into a hidden world, with the sounds of insects and birds and a canopy of greenery that presents a stark contrast to the road beside it. Walking down the steps slowly, a massive rock cave comes into view; this is the largest natural cave in Shishan – Shuimen Cave. Water from the mountain spring trickles down the rock wall above, creating a curtain of water at the cave entrance, hence the name. Inside Shuimen Cave, there is a century-old temple – Fanyin Temple. In 1902, Master Wei Kai discovered Shuimen Cave and built a temple there, primarily dedicated to the worship of Shakyamuni Buddha. Due to the nearby murmuring sound of flowing water, reminiscent of the sound of mantras, the temple was named Fanyin Temple. It is the northernmost temple and the lowest in altitude among the many temples on Shishan, and it is also the only temple that is not built in traditional temple architectural style. On the opposite side of the Shuimen Cave railing, you can see groups of fish like the Macropodus opercularis and Taiwan stonefish swimming in the crystal-clear pebble stream, along with dragonflies and birds inhabiting the area, making it truly a paradise. In a short distance, you can enjoy such a rich feast for the body, mind, and spirit. You may consider arranging a leisurely tour of Shishan along with the surrounding Shuimen Bridge Trail and Tengtong Ancient Trail.
