Shuilian Cave Introduction
Shuilian Cave Trail is located next to the Shishan Visitor Center. The trail is not long and is relatively flat, offering picturesque views that are perfect for all ages to enjoy the mountain scenery. Upon entering the Shuilian Cave Trail, it feels as though you have stepped into a magical world, with the sounds of insects and birds and lush greenery, presenting a striking contrast to the nearby road. Walking down the steps, a massive cave comes into view, known as Shuilian Dong (Water Curtain Cave), the largest natural cave in Shishan. It is named for the spring water flowing down from the rock wall above, which creates a curtain of water at the cave entrance. Inside the Water Curtain Cave, there is a century-old temple called Fanyin Temple. In 1902, Master Wei Kai discovered the Water Curtain Cave and built a temple inside, primarily dedicated to offering to Siddhartha Gautama. Due to the nearby sound of flowing water, which echoes like a celestial sound in the temple, it was named Fanyin Temple. It is situated the furthest north among the many temples on Shishan, at the lowest elevation, and is the only temple not built in the traditional temple architectural style. On the other side of the Water Curtain Cave railing, you can see groups of fish like the Mouth Mackerel and Taiwanese Stonefish swimming in the clear pebble creek, as well as dragonflies and birds inhabiting the area, making it a true paradise. Just a short walk can provide such a rich feast for the body and soul, so why not plan a leisurely trip to Shishan, including the nearby Shuilian Bridge Trail and Tengping Ancient Trail?
