Shuiliandong Cave Introduction
The Shuilian Cave Trail is located next to the Shishan Visitor Center. The trail is not long and features a gentle slope, offering picturesque views that are ideal for people of all ages to enjoy the mountain scenery. As soon as you step into the Shuilian Cave Trail, it feels like entering a different world filled with the sounds of insects and birds, surrounded by lush greenery that contrasts sharply with the road nearby. Walking down the steps, a gigantic cave comes into view; this is the largest natural cave in Shishan, known as Shuilian Cave. The name derives from spring water cascading down from the cliffs above, creating a curtain of water at the cave's entrance. Inside Shuilian Cave is a century-old temple called Fanyin Temple. In 1902, Master Wei Kai discovered Shuilian Cave and built a temple there mainly to worship Shakyamuni Buddha. Due to the nearby sound of flowing water, which resembles a celestial chant lingering in the temple, it was named Fanyin Temple. It is the northernmost and lowest-altitude temple among the many temples in Shishan, and it is also the only one that is not constructed in the traditional temple architectural style. On the other side of the Shuilian Cave railing, you can see schools of fish such as Mackerel and Taiwan stonefish swimming in the clear, pebble-strewn stream, along with dragonflies and birds inhabiting the area, making it truly a paradise on earth. In just a short distance, you can enjoy such a rich spiritual and physical feast; why not plan a leisurely trip to Shishan along with the nearby Shuilian Bridge Trail and Tengtian Ancient Trail?
