Ming Hsiang Bakery Introduction
Ming Hsiang Bakery is a century-old pastry shop located in Xikou Township (since 1915), founded by Mr. Chen Tien-Song. The bakery's pastry-making techniques were learned by Mr. Chen from a master craftsman in Xikou. The most representative gift from Xikou Township, the "Bird Cake," is made by applying the learned pastry skills to create various shapes (such as birds, fish, leaves, gourds, pipes, and water chestnuts), and it was originally referred to as "Color Cakes" (a Taiwanese term for various-shaped pastries). Every Bird Cake in this shop is handcrafted by the third-generation owner, Mr. Chen Kan-Yu, using traditional methods passed down for over a century. After baking, the Bird Cakes have a golden, crispy outer layer and a rich filling. As time has evolved, Ming Hsiang Bakery has also developed more flavors, currently offering five options for customers: sweet potato, taro, red bean, mung bean paste, and matcha. In addition to Bird Cakes, the shop’s Dragon and Phoenix Cake and Miancha have both received recognition through the prestigious Golden Sign Award. So, when visiting Ming Hsiang, be sure to bring home not just the Bird Cakes but also the Dragon and Phoenix Cake and Miancha for a truly fulfilling experience!
