Xikou Traditional Double Cake and Soft Rice Cake Introduction
Shuang Gao Run is a traditional dessert with a strong old-fashioned flavor in this hometown. The upper and lower layers of the chewy cake are made from a mixture of glutinous rice and Piao Lai rice milled into rice paste, with a filling of brown sugar in between. For Mr. Qiu Zhi Jin, it is an extremely beloved traditional taste. Due to his fondness for this flavor, Mr. Qiu spent five to six years trying to make Shuang Gao Run on his own while working at a TOYOTA service center. After retiring and returning to his hometown, he apprenticed with a local master craftsman, Mr. You Ben, to learn the craft, ensuring that this dessert rich in traditional flavor would not vanish from Xikou Township. After retiring, he cultivated black rice using "non-toxic agriculture," which he incorporated into the production of Shuang Gao Run along with the use of red beans and dried longan for the filling, giving the traditional dessert a new flavor. At the same time, he has further developed black rice products such as black rice bran, black rice cake, and black rice steamed cake, all of which are worth tasting for their healthy and delightful taste.
