Hsiao Wu-long Jiaozi Pottery Introduction
Jiaozi pottery integrates techniques such as modeling, painting, and firing, making it one of the most valued folk crafts in Taiwan's traditional arts. Jiaozi pottery is widely used in general architecture and temple decorations due to its rich shapes, vibrant colors, and an atmosphere filled with auspicious and joyful elements. The Chiayi region is the birthplace of Jiaozi pottery in Taiwan, which was once referred to by the Japanese as "Chiayi Kiln." Mr. Hsiao Wu-long was born in Chiayi City in 1948 and was inspired by the master of fine carving, Mr. Lou Yong-yu. In 1980, he became a disciple of the renowned fine carving master Lou Yong-yu in Taiwan, learning this nearly lost ancient art. In 1993, Hsiao Wu-long established the Jiaozi Pottery Studio. He is one of the few experts in fine carving in the country, with works that have won excellence in the Craft Division at the 47th Provincial Fine Arts Exhibition and a third prize in the carving category at the 4th National Craft Competition. Today, his works are recognized and cherished by experts both in Taiwan and abroad.
