Qing Kinmen Town General's Office Introduction
The site of the Qing Kinmen District Magistrate's Office was originally called "Congqingxuan," which, according to legend, was where the Ming Dynasty scholar Xu Xie studied in the Xinchou year (1601 AD). During the Kangxi era, General Chen Long, considering that the old Kinmen City had undergone numerous military disasters at the end of the Ming Dynasty and that the population in Hupu had flourished, relocated the General's Office to this location. After several renovations, it has become the current scale. Until 1915, when Kinmen was established as a county, the General's Office served as the highest administrative center, going through various phases as the Kinmen County Office, Kinmen County Government, Administrative Office, and Kinmen Defense Department, among others. Today, it is a classic tourist attraction in Kinmen and is also a designated historical site of the county. Stepping into this four-in-one courtyard-style building, time seems to flow back to the past. The Qing official hall has been well-preserved, with lifelike wax figures in the entrance, main hall, and inner offices recreating scenes from the past. Each room comes with detailed text explanations. The grand cotton tree in the backyard is a must-see, over a hundred years old, blooming bright cotton flowers every spring, attracting many photographers who come to capture the vibrant orange flowers that add to the atmosphere of the General's Office.
