Chen Shih-yin Western-style House Introduction
Chen Shiyin Western-style Building was built in 1903 by Chen Shiyin from Gaoping, Kinmen, who became wealthy through business ventures in Singapore and Indonesia. In 1932, during the 21st year of the Republic of China, it was constructed at a cost of 30,000 silver dollars. In 2006, it was listed as a county-designated historical site. The overall architecture features a T-shaped Western-style building, with brick and stone walls; the structure consists of a hipped roof and also includes a rear eave layout, making it large in scale. The Western decorations are exquisite, with windows adorned with tropical-style shutters and a façade featuring dragon motifs welcoming deities, as well as column heads and eaves decorated with different themes from Chinese and Western cultures; the most valuable architectural decorations inside the building are the "Humble Foreign Guest's Corner" on the wall and the “Indian Doll Encouraging People, Holding a Heavenly Peach” on the corner of the roof.
