Chan Shih-Yin Western-style House Introduction
The Chen Shiyin Western-style Mansion was built in 1903 by Chen Shiyin, who became wealthy through trade in Singapore and Indonesia during the late Qing Dynasty. It was constructed at a cost of 30,000 silver dollars in 1932 (the 21st year of the Republic of China). In 2006, it was designated as a county-level historical monument. The overall architectural style is that of a Western-style mansion, with the building made of brick walls and flat stone walls. The structure features a hard-mountain design with a hipped roof and a substantial scale. The exterior decorations are exquisite, showcasing tropical-style window shutters, with dual dragons embracing a fairy on the mountain peak, as well as various elements like column capitals and eaves that present different themes of Chinese and Western styles. Among its most valuable architectural decorations are the "Handsome Barbarian Raising House Corner" and the "Indian Barbarian Encouraging Clown Holding Immortal Peaches" on the wall of the mountain peak.
