Chen Shiyin Western-style House Introduction
The Chen Shiyin Western-style House was built in 1903 during the late Qing Dynasty by Chen Shiyin, who became wealthy through business ventures in Singapore and Indonesia. In 1932, he invested 30,000 silver dollars to construct this building. In 2006, it was designated as a county historical site. The overall structure resembles a Tortoise-shaped Western-style building, with the main walls made of brick and flat stone. The building features a hard ridge roof with a unique layout, and is quite grand in scale. Its elaborate Western decorations include intricate window frames and shutters typical of Southern seas style, as well as motifs such as twin dragons embracing a fairy on the front gable, and various elements that showcase a blend of Chinese and Western themes. Among the most valuable architectural decorations are the "Humble Foreigners' Corner" on the gable wall and the "Indian Foreign Figures Encouraging People with a Peach of Immortality."
