Weixiang Fish Ball Shop (Xu Yi Fish Crisps) Introduction
On Tamsui Old Street, there are many shops selling fish snacks, among which Wei Xiang Fish Balls Store is the original establishment for Tamsui fish snacks, and the packaging of their fish snacks is named after the owner, Hsu Yi. Tamsui fish snacks are famous throughout Taiwan, and their origin is quite interesting. It is said that the texture of the fish snacks was not very crispy at first, but during one occasion, the owner, Hsu Yi, accidentally dropped them back into the fryer after frying, and to his surprise, customers loved it. In the past, locals used to eat it with rice porridge, while modern visitors enjoy it as a snack with drinks or as a casual treat. The method of making fish snacks involves crushing the bones and flesh of yellow croaker or shark, mixing it with sweet potato flour, and deep-frying it until crispy. After packaging in plastic bags, it becomes the famous Tamsui specialty "fish snacks."
