On Tamsui Old Street, there are numerous shops selling fish chips, among which Wei Xiang Fish Ball Shop is the original establishment of Tamsui fish chips, with the fish chip packaging named after the owner, Hsu Yi. Tamsui fish chips are famous throughout Taiwan, and their origin is quite interesting. It is said that the texture of the fish chips was not that crispy in the past, until one day, the owner Hsu Yi accidentally dropped them back into the frying oil after they were cooked, surprisingly making them a hit among customers. In the past, locals used to enjoy them with congee, while today's tourists enjoy them as a snack or with drinks. The method of making fish chips involves grinding the bones and flesh of yellow croaker or shark, mixing it with sweet potato flour, and deep-frying until crispy. After being packaged in plastic bags, they become the famous Tamsui specialty "fish chips."
