Wei Xiang Fish Ball Shop (Hsu Yi Fish Crisp) Introduction
On Tamsui Old Street, there are many shops selling fish chips, among which Wei Xiang Fish Ball Shop is the original store of Tamsui fish chips, with the fish chip packaging named after the owner, Hsu Yi. Tamsui fish chips are famous throughout Taiwan, and their origin is quite interesting. It is said that the texture of fish chips was not as crispy in the past, but one time, after the owner Hsu Yi finished frying, he accidentally dropped them back into the oil, and surprisingly, they became very popular among customers. In the past, local residents used them to accompany congee, while present-day tourists enjoy them as a snack with drinks. The method of making fish chips involves grinding the bones and meat of yellow croaker or shark, mixing it with sweet potato starch, and deep frying it until crispy. It is then packaged in plastic bags, making it Tamsui's famous product, "fish chips."
