Wei Xiang Fish Ball Shop (Hsu Yi Fish Crisp) Introduction
On Tamsui Old Street, there are several shops selling fish snacks, among which Wei Xiang Fish Ball Shop is the original shop of Tamsui Fish Snacks, with packaging named after the owner, Hsu Yi. Tamsui Fish Snacks are famous throughout Taiwan, and their origin is quite interesting. It is said that in the past, the texture of the fish snacks was not so crispy, but one day, after frying, the owner Hsu Yi accidentally dropped it back into the oil, and it unexpectedly became popular with customers. Locals used to pair it with rice porridge, while today, tourists enjoy it as a side dish for drinks or a casual snack. The method of making fish snacks involves grinding up the bones and meat of yellow croaker or shark, mixing it with sweet potato flour, and deep-frying it until crispy. After sealing it in a plastic bag, it becomes the famous Tamsui specialty "Fish Snacks."
