Fruit cakes contain fruit jam and mixed fruit juice, hence the name fruit cakes. It does not contain added preservatives, resulting in a shorter shelf life; whereas modern fruit cakes are more appealing to the youth, with main ingredients including orange peel, fruit juice, and flour. Additionally, preservatives are added to the outer packaging to extend shelf life.
