Sicao Fort Introduction
During the Daoguang period, the First Opium War broke out between China and Britain. To prevent the British forces from entering Taiwan, the then Taiwanese Governor Yao Ying proposed the construction of 17 forts in the Anping and Tainan River areas. The Sicao Fort was one of these forts. It has been designated as a national second-class monument, and while the ancient cannons are no longer present, the fortifications remain, featuring a wall with 13 circular gun holes. This wall has become part of the enclosure of the nearby Tainan City Zhenhai Elementary School. The Sicao Fort is located in front of the Sicao Dajia Miao (Temple), and nearby is the famous Sicao Green Tunnel, where visitors can enjoy a scenic ride on a bamboo raft through the waterways and experience the beautiful natural ecology.
