During the Daoguang era, the First Opium War broke out between China and Britain. To prevent the British forces from entering Taiwan, Yao Ying, who was the military governor of Taiwan at that time, proposed the construction of 17 forts in the Anping and Tainan River areas. The Sicao Fort is one of them. Sicao Fort has been designated as a national second-level historic site. Today, the original cannons are no longer present, and only the fortification walls remain. The fort walls have a total of 13 circular gun holes, which serve as the surrounding wall for the nearby Tainan City Zhenhai Elementary School. Sicao Fort is located in front of the Sicao Grand Mazu Temple, and nearby is the famous Sicao Green Tunnel, where visitors can take a scenic bamboo raft to navigate through the waterway and enjoy the beautiful natural ecology.
