Sicao Battery Introduction
During the Daoguang era, the First Opium War occurred between China and Britain. To prevent British forces from entering Taiwan, the then Taiwan military governor Yao Ying proposed the construction of 17 forts in the Anping and Tainan River areas, with the Sicao Battery being one of them. The Sicao Battery is listed as a national second-class historic site. There are no ancient cannons left, only the ruins of the fortifications, with 13 round gun holes on the walls, which now serve as the fence for the nearby Tainan Chenghai Elementary School. The Sicao Battery is located in front of the Sicao Grand Mazu Temple, close to the famous attraction Sicao Green Tunnel, where visitors can enjoy a scenic bamboo raft ride along the river, experiencing the beautiful natural ecology.
