During the Daoguang era, the First Opium War occurred between China and Britain. To prevent British troops from entering Taiwan, Yao Ying, the then Taiwan military commissioner, proposed the construction of 17 forts in the Anping and Tainan River regions, with the Sicao Fort being one of them. The Sicao Fort is listed as a national second-class monument. Although the ancient cannons are no longer present, the fortification walls remain, featuring a total of 13 circular gun ports. These walls now serve as the surrounding wall of the nearby Zhenhai Elementary School in Tainan City. The Sicao Fort is located in front of the Sicao Temple, and nearby is the famous Sicao Green Tunnel, where visitors can take scenic bamboo rafts to navigate the waterways and enjoy the beautiful natural ecology.
