Sihcao Battery Introduction
In the Daoguang era, during the First Opium War between China and Britain, in order to prevent British forces from entering Taiwan, the then-Taiwan military governor Yao Ying proposed the construction of 17 fortifications in the Anping and Tainan areas. The Sicao Fort is one of them. The Sicao Fort has been designated as a national second-class historic monument. Currently, the ancient cannons are no longer present, and only the fort walls remain, featuring a total of 13 round gun openings. This wall serves as the boundary wall for the nearby Tainan City Zhenhai Elementary School. Sicao Fort is located in front of the Sicao Dazhong Temple, and nearby is the famous Sicao Green Tunnel, where visitors can take scenic bamboo rafts to navigate the river and enjoy the beautiful natural ecology.
