Sicao Battery Introduction
During the Daoguang era, the First Opium War occurred between China and Britain. To prevent the British army from entering Taiwan, the then Taiwan Governor-General Yao Ying proposed to build 17 fortifications in the Anping and Tainan areas. The Sicou Fort is one of them. Sicou Fort is listed as a national second-class historic site. The ancient cannons no longer exist, leaving only the fortification walls, which feature a total of 13 circular gun holes. This wall has become the fence of the nearby Tainan City Zhenhai Elementary School. Sicou Fort is located in front of the Sicou Temple, and nearby is the famous Sicou Green Tunnel, where visitors can take sightseeing bamboo rafts to navigate through the river and enjoy the beautiful natural ecology.
