During the Daoguang Era, the First Opium War occurred between China and England. To prevent British troops from entering Taiwan, Yao Ying, who was then the Taiwan military commissioner, proposed the construction of 17 forts in the Anping and Tainan area. The Sicao Fort is one of these forts. Sicao Fort is designated as a national second-class historical monument, but the ancient cannons are no longer present; only the fort's earthwork walls remain. On the fort wall, there are 13 round gun holes, and this wall has become part of the surrounding fence of Tainan City's Zhenhai Elementary School. Sicao Fort is located in front of Sicao Folk Temple, and nearby is the famous attraction Sicao Green Tunnel, where visitors can enjoy a scenic ride on bamboo rafts through the waterway and experience the beautiful natural ecology.
