During the Daoguang period, the First Opium War broke out between China and Britain. To prevent the British army from entering Taiwan, Yao Ying, the then Taiwan military advisor, proposed the construction of 17 fortifications in the Anping and Taijiang areas, among which was the Sicao Fort. The Sicao Fort is classified as a national second-class historic site. Currently, the ancient cannons are no longer present, leaving only the fortifications' walls with 13 circular gun holes. This wall has become part of the surrounding wall of the Zhenhai Elementary School in Tainan City. The Sicao Fort is located in front of the Sicao Dazhong Temple, and nearby is the famous Sicao Green Tunnel, where you can enjoy an eco-friendly experience by riding a sightseeing bamboo raft through the waterways and appreciating the beautiful natural ecology.
