During the Daoguang era, the First Opium War occurred between China and the UK. To prevent the British forces from entering Taiwan, Yao Ying, the then-Taiwan military governor, proposed the construction of 17 forts in the Anping and Tainan River areas. Sicao Fort is one of them. Sicao Fort is designated as a national second-level historic site. Currently, the old cannons are no longer present, leaving only the fortress walls. The fort wall has 13 circular gun holes, and this wall serves as the surrounding wall of the nearby Tainan Municipal Zhenhai Elementary School. Sicao Fort is located in front of the Sicao Da Zhong Temple, and nearby is the famous Sicao Green Tunnel, where visitors can take scenic bamboo rafts to navigate the waterway and enjoy the beautiful natural ecology.
