Sicao Battery Introduction
During the Daoguang era, the First Opium War occurred between China and Britain. To prevent British forces from entering Taiwan, Yao Ying, who was the governor of Taiwan at the time, proposed the construction of 17 forts in Anping and the Tainan area. The Sicao Fort is one of them. It has been designated as a national second-class historic site, and although the ancient cannons are no longer present, the fort's walls remain, featuring 13 round cannon holes. This wall serves as a fence for the nearby Tainan City Zhenhai Elementary School. Sicao Fort is located in front of the Sicao Dazhong Temple, and nearby is the well-known Sicao Green Tunnel, where visitors can enjoy a scenic bamboo raft ride along the river, appreciating the beautiful natural ecology.
