Nong Lai Small Table Introduction

"Nong Lai, Small Dining Table" on Wufeng North Road offers a blend of old-fashioned charm and modern flair, serving fresh, homemade Taiwanese comfort food. Its exterior features a colorful mural depicting landmarks of Chiayi. The owner couple, although not originally from Chiayi, fell in love with this city at the foot of Alishan and chose to settle here. The restaurant's interior is filled with unique, nostalgic Taiwanese elements, making it a place where older patrons can reminisce about their youth, while the younger generation finds modern retro appeal. Nong Lai specializes in homemade meal sets, with the owner visiting the market daily for fresh ingredients. Almost all the unique sauces, such as soy sauce, chili oil, and pickled vegetables, are made in-house. Popular dishes include the "Thai-style Lemon Fish," which is highlighted by fresh fish and a homemade Taiwanese version of Thai sauce, the must-try "Private Beef Pot," and the "Private Plum Chicken" made with self-pickled plums. Located within a building, Nong Lai's design embraces a Taiwanese street food vibe. Since opening in 2020, it has attracted a youthful crowd who often return, bringing their families for gatherings. This aligns perfectly with the restaurant's initial vision of creating a family dining experience that conveys the flavors of Taiwan while bridging generational gaps.
