Little Table Introduction
"Nong Lai, Small Dining Table" on Wufeng North Road offers a combination of old-fashioned and trendy, fresh-made Taiwanese home-cooked dishes. The restaurant features a mural wall depicting a landmark in Chiayi at its entrance. The owners are not from Chiayi, but they fell in love with this city at the foot of Alishan and decided to settle here. The restaurant's space is filled with unique old-school Taiwanese elements, making it a nostalgic spot for older patrons while providing a modern vintage vibe for younger generations. Nong Lai focuses on home-style set meals, and the owner purchases fresh ingredients daily from the market. Nearly all the signature sauces, such as soy sauce, chili oil, and pickled vegetables, are homemade. Popular dishes include the "Thai-style Lemon Fish," which is highlighted by fresh fish and a homemade Taiwanese version of Thai sauce, the quickly sold-out "Private Beef Hot Pot," and the "Private Plum Roasted Chicken" made with homemade pickled plums. Although Nong Lai is located in a building, its design emphasizes a Taiwanese street food style. Since opening in 2020, it has attracted young customers who have enjoyed their meals and brought their families for gatherings. This entirely aligns with its original concept: to create a family restaurant that conveys the flavors of Taiwan and blends generations together.
