Nong Lai Small Table Introduction

"Nong Lai, Small Dining Table" on Wu Feng North Road offers a blend of old-school charm and modern flair, serving fresh and homemade Taiwanese comfort food. The restaurant features a mural wall depicting the landmarks of Chiayi at its entrance. Though the owners are not from Chiayi, they fell in love with this city at the foot of Alishan and decided to settle here. The dining space is filled with unique old-school Taiwanese elements that evoke nostalgia for older generations while appealing to younger diners with its modern retro vibe. Nong Lai specializes in homestyle meal sets, with the owners sourcing fresh ingredients daily from local markets. Almost all the signature sauces, including soy sauce, chili oil, and pickled vegetables, are homemade. Popular dishes include the "Thai-style Lemon Fish," which relies on fresh fish and a homemade Taiwanese version of Thai sauce, the must-try "Private Beef Pot" that disappears in seconds, and the "Private Plum Chicken," which is cooked with plums pickled in-house every year. Located within a building, the restaurant's design embraces a Taiwanese street food aesthetic. Since opening in 2020, it has attracted many young diners who enjoy the food and then bring their families for gatherings. This perfectly aligns with the original vision of creating a family restaurant that conveys the flavors of Taiwan and bridges generational gaps.
