Tufen Li Ancient House Introduction

Banli Ancient House is located at the Banli Scenic Area Management Station. It is a descendant of Wang Shenzhi, the 10th son of the Min King, who built it when he moved to Banli Village during the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty. During the military administration period, this ancient house was requisitioned for military use. After the Nationalist army retreated, it was managed by the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration (referred to as "Matsu Administration") for restoration. The building materials were all procured from the mainland and constructed according to the traditional architectural style of Eastern Fujian. Due to the meticulous construction techniques, the carvings on the internal beams are particularly delicate and exquisite; additionally, there is a courtyard in the center of the house, and the saddle-shaped side wall indicates that this was a residence of nobility, making it highly valuable for preservation. Although the beams inside the ancient house have suffered damage with multiple collapses, the outer walls are intact, and some valuable wooden walls and beam carvings have been well preserved. Therefore, after multiple efforts from local villagers, the Banli Ancient House was confirmed in 2008 to be included in the settlement preservation and reconstruction work promoted by the Matsu Administration. With government funding, after restoration, the Matsu Administration will have a 20-year usage right, intending to integrate it with the existing visitor service center to open more shops and exhibition spaces. The Banli Ancient House is not only going to be revitalized but also adds an additional tourism resource for Banli.
