(Tsuhuan) Traditional House Introduction
Banli Old House is located at the Banli Scenic Area Administration Office. It is the descendant of Yanxi, the 10th son of the Min king Wang Shen-zhi, who built it when he moved to Banli Village during the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi period. During the military administration period, the old house was requisitioned for military use, and after the retreat of the National Army, it was maintained by the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration (referred to as "Matsu Management Office"). All building materials were procured from the mainland and constructed in accordance with the traditional architectural style of Eastern Fujian. Due to the meticulous construction techniques employed, the internal beams and columns are delicately and exquisitely carved. Additionally, the central courtyard inside, along with the saddle-shaped wall from the side door, indicates that this was a residence of the wealthy, making it of substantial preservation value. Although there are multiple collapses and damages to the internal beams, the outer wall remains intact, and some preserved wooden walls and beam carvings are in good condition. Consequently, after repeated efforts by local villagers, the Banli Old House was officially included in the preservation and reconstruction work promoted by the Matsu Management Office in 2008. With government funding, after the renovation is completed, the Matsu Management Office will have a 20-year usage right, integrating more shops and exhibition spaces into the existing visitor service center. Banli Old House will not only be revitalized but will also provide an additional tourism resource for Banli.
