Tufan Li Ancient House Introduction
The Ban Li Ancient Residence is located at the Ban Li Scenic Area Administration Office. It is the descendants of Yan Xi, the tenth son of the Min Wang Wang Shen-zhi, who built it when he moved to Ban Li Village during the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi era. During the martial law period, the ancient residence was expropriated for military use, and after the withdrawal of the Nationalist Army, it was managed and restored by the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration. The building materials were all sourced from the mainland and were constructed in the traditional architectural style of eastern Fujian. Due to its meticulous construction techniques, the internal beams and columns are intricately carved and detailed. Additionally, there is a courtyard in the center, and the saddle-shaped wall from the side entrance indicates that it was the residence of a person of power, which holds significant preservation value. Although there are several areas of collapse and damage in the interior beams, the exterior walls remain intact, and some valuable wooden walls and beam carvings have been well-preserved. Thus, after repeated efforts by local villagers, the Ban Li Ancient Residence was officially included in the settlement preservation and reconstruction work promoted by the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration in 2008. With government funding, this ancient residence is set to be restored, and after completion, the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration will have a 20-year usage right. It plans to integrate it with the existing visitor service center to open more shops and exhibition spaces, allowing the Ban Li Ancient Residence not only to regain new life but also to provide an additional tourism resource for Ban Li.
