Tu Fan Old House Introduction

Banli Ancient House is located at the Banli Scenic Area Management Office. It is the descendant of Wang Shenzhi, the 10th son of the Min King, who built it when he moved to Banli Village during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. During the martial law period, the ancient house was requisitioned for military use, and after the Nationalist Army retreated, it was maintained by the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration (referred to as "Matsu Administration"). The building materials were all sourced from the mainland and constructed in accordance with the traditional architectural style of eastern Fujian. The construction techniques are very meticulous, and the carvings of the internal beams are delicate and exquisite. Additionally, there is a courtyard in the center of the house, and the saddle-shaped wall from the side entrance indicates that this was a residence of a noble family, making it highly valuable for preservation. Although many parts of the internal beams have collapsed and suffered damage, the outer walls remain intact, and several well-preserved wooden walls and beam carvings are still in good condition. After repeated efforts by the local villagers, the Banli Ancient House was confirmed in 2008 as part of the settlement preservation and reconstruction work promoted by the Matsu Administration. The government funded the project, and after completion of the renovation, the Matsu Administration will have a 20-year usage right. It will integrate with the existing visitor service center to open more shops and exhibition spaces, giving the Banli Ancient House a new lease on life and providing additional tourist resources for Banli.
