Baisha Harbor Introduction
Baisha Harbor, an important maritime gateway of Beigan, is located at the southern tip of Beigan Island in Matsu. It serves as a key transportation hub between Matsu and the Three Links to Xiamen. Before the wharf was established, the coastline was covered with crystal-clear white sand, hence the name Baisha. Completed in 1998, Baisha Wharf transformed the pristine white sandy beach into a new maritime transportation portal for Beigan, with the addition of a port office building and the opening of the West Coastal Road that connects to Banli, facilitating more convenient transportation between sea and land. The blue sea views and continuous coastline make it an important port for both fishing and commerce. Behind the port office building, the Baisha settlement retains some old houses stacked in a stepped formation on the hillside of Nigu Mountain, showcasing a strong local fishing village character. Wandering between the ancient houses and capturing the beauty of the alleys allows one to savor the passage of time subtly reflected in the winding paths. Let’s start the journey in Beigan from here! Pingsui Zunwang Temple, an imposing palace-style temple located beside Baisha Wharf, is one of the few large northern palace-style temples in Matsu. Although the temple appears small on the outside, it possesses a grand atmosphere, making it a landmark of Baisha Harbor worthy of a visit! The temple is said to have been originally built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, and it has undergone several dynastic changes, evolving from a simple structure to a magnificent temple, seemingly telling the story of the residents' sincere faith. Even when young descendants become prosperous while abroad, they still long to return home, leaving behind the traces of their journey.
