Baisha Harbor Introduction
Baisha Harbor, an important maritime entry and exit for Beigan, is located at the southern tip of Beigan Island in Matsu. It serves as a key transportation hub between the Matsu Islands and the Three Small Links. Before the wharf was established, the coastline was covered with fine, white sand, thus earning the name "Baisha." After the completion of the Baisha Wharf in 1998, the clean Baisha beach transformed into a new gateway for maritime transport in Beigan. A port administration building was added, and the western coastal road connecting Banli was opened, enhancing the inland and maritime transportation. Coupled with the blue sea views and the continuous coastline, it has become an important port for both fishermen and merchants. Behind the port administration building, the Baisha settlement retains some old houses, stacked in layers on the hillside of Nun's Hill. The quaint stone houses reveal a strong local character of a fishing village. Visitors can meander through the ancient houses, capturing the beauty of the alleys and savoring the essence of time that seeps through the winding paths. Let’s start the journey in Beigan from here! Pingshui Zunwang Temple, a majestic palace-style temple located next to Baisha Wharf, is one of the few large northern-style palace temples in Matsu. Although the temple appears small externally, it boasts grandiose architecture and is a landmark of Baisha Harbor, making it worth a visit! According to legend, the original temple was built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty and has undergone several transformations over the dynasties, evolving from a simple structure to a magnificent temple. It seems to narrate the residents' devout faith, as those who prosper while away from home still cherish their roots and leave behind traces of their journeys.
