Baisha Harbor, an important maritime entrance for Beigan, is located at the southern end of Beigan Island in Matsu. It serves as a significant transportation hub for the Matsu Islands and the "Mini Three Links" (the ferry services connecting Taiwan and nearby regions). In the past, before the establishment of the pier, the coastline was covered with fine, crystal-white sand, which is how it got its name. After the completion of Baisha Pier in 1998, the pristine Baisha Beach transformed into a new maritime portal for Beigan, accompanied by the construction of a port administration building and the opening of the West Coastal Road connecting to Banli, further facilitating land and sea transportation. With its beautiful blue ocean view and continuous coastline, it has become an important port for fishermen and merchants alike. Behind the port administration building, the Baisha settlement retains some old houses, stacked in layers on the hillside of Nuns Mountain. The quaint stone houses showcase the rich character of a fishing village, and wandering through the ancient structures and narrow alleys allows visitors to savor the essence of time that seeps through the winding paths. Let's start the journey in Beigan from here! Pingshui Zunwang Temple The grand palace-style temple of Pingshui Zunwang Temple, located beside Baisha Pier, is one of the few large northern palace-style temples in Matsu. Though the entire temple appears small, it has a majestic presence and can be regarded as a landmark of Baisha Harbor, making it worth a visit! It is said that the original temple was built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty and has undergone changes through several dynasties, transitioning from a simple structure to a lavish temple building.
