Turtle Island Introduction
In the central part of Aokou, north of Qiongbian Village, there is a prominent granite reef that, due to its unique rock formations, resembles a large sea turtle resting on the water's surface. The locals thus call it "Turtle Island." Surrounding Turtle Island, the water is crystal clear and mirror-like, earning Qiongbian Village the nickname "Mirror Bay." It is said that the village thrived due to the excellent feng shui of this area, and the local residents believe that many folk tales and beliefs originate from Turtle Island, which they regard as one of the village's treasures. Every year, around April and May, it is one of the best places to observe "Blue Tears." Legend of the Black Stone Tablet: If you have a pair of binoculars or a camera, don't forget to use a telephoto lens to get a closer look; you will find a black stone tablet on the island inscribed with "Plant Ficus and Gather Wealth." It is said that around 1994, following the instructions of the deity in the Tianhou Temple, residents erected two tablets on the island, one inscribed with "Plant Ficus and Gather Wealth" and another listing the names of donors. Over the course of more than 20 years, Qiongbian Village has gradually become a popular tourist destination and a unique folk community in Matsu.
