Xingang (Rainbow) Waterfall Introduction

Newport Falls, also known as Rainbow Falls and Malalu Falls, is located on the west side of Chenggong Township, Taitung County, Taiwan. During the Japanese colonial period, it was referred to as "Weishen Falls." Geographically, it is situated at the foothills of Xinguang Mountain in the eastern part of the Taiwan Coastal Mountain Range, originating from Xinguang Mountain, with a drop of approximately 200 meters, belonging to the Xinguang River basin. It is one of the rare long waterfalls in Taiwan and has the highest drop among waterfalls on the eastern coast, earning it a spot among Taiwan’s top ten famous waterfalls. Currently, there is a Malalu Trail developed by the town office that leads to the falls, with a small parking lot at the trail entrance. The trail takes about 40 minutes to an hour to complete.

Address：Sanmin Industry Road, Chengkong Township, Taitung County 961, on the way to the mountains

Transportation Methods：By bus: Take the Hsing Tung Bus 8101, 8102, 8103, 8107, 8119, 8120, or 8125 to get off at the Sanmin Elementary School station. Then, take Dong 18 Township Road (Sanmin Road) and turn left onto Furong Road at Sanmin Elementary School. Reach the fork and turn right onto Dong 16 Township Road (Sanmin Industrial Road). At the fork with a sign for the Malalu Trail, turn right and go uphill to the entrance of the Malalu Trail. The distance to the waterfall is about 6 kilometers, not including the trail. It is recommended to rent transportation to get there.

Remarks：1. To reach the Shingang Waterfall, you need to pass through the Malalu Trail, so please prepare your equipment. 2. If you want to get a distant view of the Shingang Waterfall, you can clearly see it next to the white banyan tree at the entrance of the Malalu Trail.
