Cats on the Riverbank Introduction
A small and low-key tea shop, bustling with crowds from morning to night, this establishment has been operating for ten years beside the moat in the center of Hsinchu City. All the tea drinks are uniquely named by the owners, making it truly a gem of Hsinchu. They refuse to open branches or franchises. I wonder how there are business owners who do not run their shops with the sole purpose of maximizing profits. Two local Hsinchu women, both cat lovers and graduates of the Chinese department, initially struggled to operate their shop while taking care of a group of stray cats by the moat. They warmed each other's hearts through their shared compassion. Perhaps the heavens, seeing their dedication, decided not to let such good tea and such kind people go to waste. Just over a year after opening, they finally gained the favor of students and attention from Japanese magazine media, allowing the cats by the riverbank to be noticed. If you come to the center of Hsinchu City and miss the chance to queue for a cup of the shop's signature "Meow Gulu," enjoying the scenery around the moat, then you will not experience the same youthful nostalgia as the character Lin Zhenxin from the film "Our Times," which was filmed near this shop, showcasing the beautiful historical sites of Hsinchu City's moat. The flavor of tea that belongs to the youth of Hsinchu instantly awakens one's entire youth.
